Summit Brewing Do you like refreshing and citrusy beers for summer?  When you sip on a pint for patio season, does it soothe your soul? Do you have opposable thumbs?  If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, Summit Brewing’s Skip Rock White Ale is for you.

Just in time for the summer that we never thought would grace Minnesota, Skip Rock White Ale is the perfect accent for all your seasonal fun.  Skip Rock is currently available in the Summit Boundary Waters box and Summit Taproom.  However, starting in early June, you can find Skip Rock in 6-pack bottles and 12-pack cans.

The beer has a brilliant marmalade color with just a slight haze to it.  I know that using the term hazy nowadays is dangerous, and akin to putting nitroglycerin into a paint can shaker for beer geeks.  Thier eyes go buggy and the bros start percolating like a Bunn coffee machine hooked up to a car battery.  So, when I say haze, I am not referring to a dominant characteristic of the beer.  The fluffy white head on the beer contrasts the color nicely making for a picturesque drinking experience.  This bad boy will look great in a glass for your happy hour-inspired Instagram shots.

Aromas of citrus peel, coriander, and clove waft from the glass.  It is not out of the ordinary to experience what medical professionals have termed RSGS, or Restless Salivary Gland Syndrome, after getting a whiff of this beer.  This bouquet of aromas that Skip Rock brings will compliment the smell of your charcoal grill and lilacs in your backyard beautifully.

Skip Rock has a nice body to it, thanks to oast, malted wheat, and flaked wheat.  It drinks smooth and it will be easy to order another one.  What excites me most about this beer is how balanced the flavors present themselves.  I like the extra kick that the tangerine peel imparts in the beer.  Definitely juicy, but in a very non-broski kind of a way.  The hint of spice from the clove and coriander is pleasing to the palate.

No doubt, before we know it, all the Oktoberfest and barrel-aged stouts will be back.  The summer season is short in Minnesota.  Enjoy it while it lasts.  In my opinion, the Skip Rock White Ale from Summit is the embodiment of the season and belongs on your summer drinking list.
