On Saturday, August 20th at CHS Field, the Summer Beer Dabbler took place in all its glory. CHS Field is the perfect venue for this event. The spacious concourse and on-field brewery placement allows for the droves of beer dabblers to move around. This ensures that the fest never feels too crowded. Every Beer Dabbler festival would be exponentially better if they didn’t sell so many tickets. As far as festivals go, the Summer Dabbler price point is low, thus making it a very hot ticket.
There is an eclectic mix of breweries at this event along with a great amount of specialty beers available. Dangerous Man kicked their first keg of Peanut Butter Porter in 37 minutes; luckily they brought 2. Drekker Brewing Company from Fargo, ND was pouring a refreshing cucumber berliner weisse that embodied refreshment. Insight Brewing Company had their fruited Saisons on display in all their glory. This festival also had a few pumpkin beers available, my favorite of the mix being the Shottky Pumpkin from Tin Whiskers Brewing Company. Wabasha Brewing Co. was pouring their Westside Popper, a Jalepeño Cream Ale which sneakily might be one of the best local specialty beers. This was also my first time tasting Perennial Artisan Ales from St. Louis, MO and Cascade Brewing from Portland, OR.
The event culminated with a fantastic fireworks show, and before you knew it, the event was done. This festival seems to get better every year. Despite breweries ran out of beer well before the closing bell, there was enough to go around. CHS Field is the perfect place for this fest and the lines are not bad at all.
